Sturminster Newton Cheese Festival

Dates & Times

Overview

Over the weekend of 14th & 15th September, the Sturminster Newton Cheese Festival will be celebrating its 20th anniversary. There’s something for everyone at this well-loved family event, including an array of locally produced food and drink, local crafters and plenty of entertainment for the whole family.

With the aim of promoting “The Creamery” and its prize-winning, championship cheeses, local organisations and businesses came together to create the first Sturminster Newton Cheese Festival in 1999. With lots to do and see, the festival has grown to become an event that includes and celebrates Sturminster as a town.

During the very first event, the Cheese Factory opened its doors to visitors and other cheese producers sold their products in the town. A special Festival Cheese was also created. A cheese theme ran throughout the entire event, linking cheese with ale, apples, cider, bread, and wine. The market identity of the town was also an important part of the event, capturing both market days and a wealth of local food producers.

The event has grown significantly in the last 20 years; this year there will be over 80 food and drink producers, an array of arts and crafts stalls, plus a jam-packed entertainment line-up. The Mousetrap Theatre will, once again, be hosted by Dorset Food and Drink, where they will be showcasing a flavour of what the local Dorset Larder has to offer, with talks and chef demonstrations on both days of the festival.

The festival opens at 10am and tickets are for sale on the days of the festival only. £6 per adult, 14 years and under are free.
