Overview

Loose Reins is where the world slows down. It’s where the daily grind is left at the gate and a place of experience, discovery and relaxation opens up. It’s where you reconnect, come together and unwind in luxurious lodges or cosy cabins. Surrounded by beautiful Dorset countryside, it’s the place where life’s stresses end and life’s adventures begin. Put those feet up and toast marshmallows on the fire. Take things slow. Rock back on the cabin porch. Listen to the owls. Snuggle inside with the wood burner or feel the summer dew on your feet. Make friends with the horses, make memories forever. Live the pioneer life in tranquil comfort. Share a home-cooked meal and trail talk under the stars. ‘Do not go where the path may lead,’ As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, ‘go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.’ Discover Loose Reins. Discover your trail.

Our Canvas Lodges are perfect for families or friends, each sleeping up to six people in luxurious beds (two king size and two single). You’ll also find a fully equipped kitchen, large bathroom with flushing loo, shower and hot water on demand and a spacious living and dining area. You can gather round the wood burning stove on the sofas or make the most of open skies and breath-taking views over the Blackmore Vale by sitting out on the deck and cooking dinner over the fire bowl. It might be canvas, but it’s a whole lot more than camping…

We have three individually designed cabins; Ranchers, Gold Panners or Trappers – and each of these pioneer inspired cabins has a distinct personality, but all provide the same level of luxurious comfort. Inside the beautifully furnished cabins you’ll find a gorgeously snug king size bed with top quality Hypnos mattress with luxury toppers, duvet and linen. The fully equipped kitchen, with storage units, gas hob, oven, fridge and wood burning stove, has a seating and dining area that transforms into two single bunks as and when you need them. Each cabin also has a fully equipped private bathroom with shower (hot water on demand), flushing loo and soft towels. Outside each cabin is a covered porch complete with dining area, bespoke rocking chairs and a fire bowl area for you to enjoy the stunning views over Loose Reins country.

Trail riding at Loose Reins is the perfect way to unwind.   Take in your surroundings whilst riding one of our American Quarter Horses, connect with your horse and feel that sense of escape, liberty and adventure. Choose one of the many amazing trails over the Wessex Ridgeway or across hundreds of acres of Dorset countryside.  For rookie riders and seasoned wranglers we also offer instruction in Western riding and Horsemanship.

Loose Reins Country is perfect place to bring your dog.  There’s hundreds of acres of  forest trails and hilltop walking to explore, or scaling Hambledon Hill Fort might just tire out even the most energetic puppy.  And what’s more – we provide everything – from bowls to beds, from towels to treats, your four-legged family friend will enjoy the Loose Reins Luxury Glamping experience for themselves and they even get their own welcome pack containing all the best dog friendly places to eat and visit in the area. It’s not all about horses you know!

Loose Reins is perfectly positioned for cyclists and we’ll even provide the bikes.  For families there’s the level, off-road route of the North Dorset Trailway which runs through the village and for those more ambitious there’s a downhill mountain bike park in the forest next door.  Whether on two legs, four legs or wheels, Loose Reins Country offers families and friends the opportunity to immerse themselves in the landscape, discover something new and build lasting memories.
