Sturminster Choral Society is a mixed choir that rehearses and performs in Sturminster Newton. Our aim is to offer people in the community the opportunity to sing in a relaxed, friendly environment, but with the motivation of a concert performance twice a year. We have about 65 members, drawn from towns and villages all over north Dorset.
In the main we sing sacred music, although the repertoire has over the years been quite varied, and includes the work of contemporary (and local) composers.
If you enjoy singing and the company of other singers do join us. We warmly welcome new members and are happy for people to try us out for a couple of weeks before signing up. We all love music, but some of us have not sung before, some are coming back to singing after a break (perhaps for the first time since school) and a few of our members are more experienced singers. Some of us can sight read, some of us can’t. We do not hold auditions.
The Choral Society has two terms. Autumn Term rehearsals for the Christmas Concert usually start on the second Monday of September, and rehearsals for the Spring Concert on the second Monday of January. The second rehearsal of each term is an Open Rehearsal for new singers to try us out and members to bring friends who might like to sing with us.
We meet at the Methodist Church Hall, Church Street, Sturminster Newton, on Mondays from 7.30pm to 9.30pm with a tea/coffee break half-way through the rehearsal. The fee per term is currently £35.
We are in our summer break at the moment and will start the new term on Monday, 16th September. If you are interested in joining us, please be in touch with the Society’s Secretary on 01258 472274.
Membership per term – £35
