Boogie Woogie organisers reluctantly cancel 2020 festival
A statement from the UK Boogie Woogie Festival.
It is with very heavy keys, slow blues and worn out dampers that, due to Covid-19, we must announce the 2020 UK Boogie Woogie Festival will be cancelled, enforcing a fallow year for the festival.
We are very sad not to be running the festival this year but following the new government measures announced over the last week, and in such uncertain times, it is our only viable option.
For our friends abroad and here in the UK we hope that the situation will have drastically improved by July, but with this hope we have accepted there is too high a risk. We have considerable uncertainty around time for planning and advertising, the level of risk the festival would pose on the public, musicians and workers and what financial impact the situation would have had on the festival. We hope our supporters and friends understand our unanimous decision. In the meantime our committee members are lending a hand closer to home by supporting our musician friends, neighbours, businesses and community to ensure our wonderful town is there when we need it next July. We hope by accepting the fate of the festival this year that the 2021 festival will be bigger and better than ever before!
Although the festival won’t be running this year we will still be hard at work sharing and supporting the Boogie Woogie music we love. Facebook and YouTube are booming with new Boogie Woogie piano videos and news and we hope to join in the virtual performance scene. Our website will still be launching in the coming weeks and we hope it will become a hub of Boogie Woogie music, knowledge, history and more for you all to enjoy! Keep your eyes peeled on our Facebook page for announcements and exciting new videos being released.
We hope to welcome our dear festival friends and family back to our small town of Sturminster Newton, Dorset in 2021 and until then we send our love and support to you all.
