Nazareth Lodge is a purpose-built residential care home situated in the vibrant market town of Sturminster Newton in North Dorset, set in the middle of landscaped gardens and with unrivalled views of the church Nazareth Lodge provides an oasis of calm and beauty for those who need it, whilst a full program of activities, both within the home or the town, is available for those who want to stay more active.

The home is registered by the Care Quality Commission for 24 residents, which ensures that every resident’s care is personalised specifically to them and that all residents receive the highest levels of care and attention possible.

Only a small percentage of care homes gain the Outstanding rating from the CQC so we are understandably very proud to have achieved this again for the second year in a row.

Situated down Penny Street near the centre of town, Nazareth Lodge has been serving the local community for more than 25 years. The home has a dedicated team of highly trained staff who are from the local area and no agency staff are ever used giving the residents continuity of care and the same friendly faces.  The home benefits from an excellent relationship with the Sturminster Newton Medical Centre (now the Blackmore Vale Partnership).

Nazareth Lodge is a friendly welcoming residential care home and with just 24 residents we are able to provide a very personal touch. Over the years the home has gained a reputation for its excellent care, à la carte menus and “home from home” atmosphere.  Dogs and hens are also part of the family!  It is a happy, vibrant home with a range of activities for all tastes: computer club, gardening circle, knitting, poetry and crossword groups to name but a few and in the summer months outings on the minibus to various destinations such as the pub for lunch!

A home for life
We understand that making the decision to move to Nazareth Lodge is not always an easy one.  For many, it means leaving a house or home that they have loved for years and we know that it often takes time to feel safe and secure again.

At Nazareth Lodge, we focus on each individual and work with them, and their friends and family and other professionals, to make the transition as easy as possible.  We gather as much information as we can about the person’s personality, their likes, dislikes, experiences and influences as we believe that this information will help us to better understand their behaviour and build relationships with them.

An active mind is a healthy mind
We believe that our time should be spent with our residents and not on endless paperwork and processes.

With that in mind, we have introduced a new administration system that allows us to spend the majority of our time with our residents and deliver truly person-centric care.

We have a full programme of daily activities designed to appeal to all residents that also help keep their minds and bodies active.  We have an Interactive Table that allows everyone to access the internet, play games or communicate with friends and family online either individually or as part of the community.

We spend time designing quizzes, games and activities that make the most of each resident’s abilities and interests – no two days are ever the same at Nazareth Lodge.

Healthy, Happy and Active
Situated in North Dorset there are many opportunities to keep active.  We encourage and support our residents to take walks, help in the garden or participate in light exercises such as Pilates or stretching and strengthening.  It is a happy, vibrant home offering a range of activities: computer club, gardening circle, knitting, poetry and crossword groups to name but a few and in the summer months outings on the minibus to various destinations such as the pub for lunch.

We work closely with local doctors and physiotherapists to tailor these exercises for each individual, making the most of their abilities and interests.

Our allotment and greenhouse are largely maintained by our residents. Our pets, Lucky the Cockerpoo puppy, and our chickens and birds, are also cared for equally by staff and residents.

We believe that in a rural community such as ours, having these animals and our gardens helps our residents feel more at home and helps them engage in the daily routines within the home.

As well as permanent residency we also offer palliative care, respite breaks and daycare.  We are told by many healthcare professionals that palliative care is something we do well at Nazareth Lodge as demonstrated by our “Platinum” status under the Gold Standard Framework.  One relative recently wrote “The staff dealt with mum’s palliative care with empathy, kindness and genuine care, working so smoothly and professionally with other medical professionals to ensure mum had the best possible care. I could not have hoped or wished for a better care team to look after her in her final days”. Nazareth Lodge can be an alternative to a hospice and will ensure a dignified and peaceful end of life.
