Home Library Service in Sturminster Newton and surrounding areas
Sturminster Newton Library has a team of dedicated Royal Voluntary Service volunteers who are able to visit on a regular basis, choosing and delivering the books you want from the Library to your home, free of charge. Large print books and talking books can also be delivered. All our volunteers are local people who are DBS checked and carry photographic ID so you don’t need to worry about letting them into your home. They all want to support people and are happy to call in for a chat, drop off some books and check on how you are doing.
This service is funded by Dorset Library Service and delivered by the Royal Voluntary Service. It is available to anyone who cannot easily get to their local library due to poor health or mobility, and can be provided on a temporary basis as well as long term, and it is also available to carers.
Our local volunteer coordinator, Carey Pearce, would be pleased to answer any questions you may have, and to arrange a visit if you would like to sign up for the service. She can be contacted on 07423 471019 or email [email protected]
The Royal Voluntary Service is also looking to grow its network of other activities and services for older people, for example social groups and community companions. We need volunteer coordinators who would like to give their skills a new purpose in life. If you are retired, looking for a new challenge or simply looking for an opportunity to give something back to your community, we are looking for talented people to help run a local club for older people or organise a community companion service. If you have the time, energy and drive, then become part of something truly inspiring. Help us bring older people together to make a positive difference to their lives. To find out more please contact the local office on 01305 236666, or e-mail [email protected]
